Holiday Park Holler – Spring 2003

PARK UPDATES:

· Spring Band Concert in the Park is slated the evening of Saturday, June 21. More information to follow.

·        It is that season…Fire Ants! As you are out enjoying the glorious spring weather in the park, please keep your eyes open for emerging fire ant mounds. The Huntleys have agreed to help control fire ants this year, (THANK YOU! Joan & Wally) so give them a call at 972-980-8260 and tell them the locations so the mounds can be treated. Periodically throughout the summer, Amdro will be sprinkled around fire ant mounds. Please keep children and pets away from the Amdro and mounds. If you would like to be notified when the Amdro is being applied, please let your Circle rep or the Huntleys know.

PARK MEETINGS AND BUSINESS:

June and July HPHA Board Meetings: The June 3rd HPHA Board meeting will be held at the Lattman’s on Regal Hill Circle at 7:30 p.m. The July 1st HPHA Board meeting will be held at the swimming pool. Any HPHA resident is welcome to attend. Future Board meetings will be posted on HPHA’s web site www.hpha.org

IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT THE POOL

·        The Pool is open and already getting lots of use. Please review your Pool Rules, especially those that pertain to age limits and guests. REMEMBER, children under 14 years (or 10-13 years with a signed waiver) are not allowed in the pool area without an adult guardian, (the Pool Manager is not permitted to act as the adult guardian).

·        The Pool Manager will attempt to ensure that the pool is a pleasant and safe place to swim by maintaining the pool facilities and reminding those using the pool of the pool rules. Please support the Pool Managers and adhere to their requests as you would a lifeguard at a public pool, (our Pool Managers are fully certified). Holiday Park Homeowners’ liability insurance is based in part on residents and their guests respecting the Pool Manager’s authority.

·        Pool Rules will be posted at the pool near the bathroom. Please familiarize yourselves. If you did  not get a copy in your mailbox this spring, please ask your Circle Rep for another copy.

·        If you need a replacement pool key, please call Pat Bennett, 972-387-0518, of Havenrock. You need to be current with your HOA dues, and there is a $25 replacement fee.

REMINDERS:

·        Hail Damaged Roof?? Residents may wish to have their roofs checked for hail damage. Often such damage is not obvious when looking at the roof from the ground, or even if you are on the roof, if you don’t know what to look for. For anyone needing their roof replaced, there is some helpful information at http://www.statefarm.com/consumer/roof.htm.  Even those who don't have State Farm can probably get a premium discount by choosing a qualified impact-resistant roofing product.  The products that qualify for State Farm are listed at http://www.statefarm.com/consumer/roofinfo/roof_texaslist.htm?title=Texas

·        Beware of Bulky Trash Fines!! Dallas City Code inspectors are monitoring when residents put out their bulky trash for curbside pickup. Please remember bulky trash, (any thing left at the curb other than the standard trash dispenser), can only be placed out at the curb the Thursday preceding the first Monday of a given month, i.e. June 2. In the future, no warnings will be given; the city will issue a $100 citation for a violation.

Also, please remember to pull your trash receptacles back off the curb after trash pickup. Ideally, the trash receptacle can be stored somewhere out of view.

·        Parking Problems: Please don’t park in the corners of the circle streets; it makes it difficult for residents to enter/exit the park. Please park in your driveway or the common parking areas and walk the few extra steps.

·        Leash Reminder: Residents are asked to take care to not to let their dog escape from their yard. Recently, especially in the mornings, dogs have been loose running in the park, without a leash or an owner.

·    No Motorized Vehicles in the Park: Please remember - no motorized vehicles are allowed in the park.

·        Tree Watering Volunteers: Please remember to water your park tree! So far this has been a very dry spring and the young trees still need supplemental watering.

·        Summer Water Conservation: from June 1 through September 30, sprinkler system watering of lawns or landscapes is prohibited from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. For more information see www.dallascityhall.com

·        Maintain Rear Walkways: Residents are asked to please maintain the portion of the walkway behind your house, and please do not store materials or other items there.

CONGRATULATIONS:

·        Anna Bevil of Mapleview (Steven McAfee & Patricia Reids’ daughter) will graduate on June 1, from Columbia College of Chicago, with a major in Marketing Communications and a minor in Drama.

·        Cody Buschardt of Mapleview (son of Mark and Donna) graduated on May 2 from Air Force boot camp. Cody is now an Airman and will go into training for combat control that will involve scuba diving and parachuting.

HPHAA CRIME UPDATES:

March/April Crime Watch info from Officer Angie Purdue, forwarded by Carol Drake HPHA Crime Watch Rep…

“Remember to lock the sheds and close garage doors. Pick up any lawn equipment or bikes from the lawn when unattended.  Lock doors and close car windows when you’re traveling to prevent carjacking. If you go out of town make sure someone is picking up the mail and newspaper.

Criminals are also targeting the retail stores, like grocery and clothing.  Ladies need to hang on to their purses at all times.  Criminals like to distract you in the store, by asking you a question, while another one will grab your wallet, checkbook or purse.  They also like to grab your purse at restaurants from the back of your chair.  Put your purse between your feet or to the inside of your booth and sit very close to it.  Never put it in the chair next to you at the theater or hang it on the door hanger in the stall of the public restrooms.  In addition, please lock your things with a padlock at the gym!

If someone knocks on your door and you were not expecting anyone, state "I'll get it!", even if you’re alone.  DO NOT OPEN THE DOOR.  State "Who is it?"  If you do not know, tell them your not interested, leave package at the door.  If they refuse, tell them you will pick it up at the post office.  Usually the post office notifies you that they will deliver a package to your door.  If you are uncertain, call 911 and report a suspicious person knocking on your door and they are refusing to leave.”

We also had a lot of burglary of motor vehicles (BMV's). We are having lots of arrests in those also as well as burglary of home arrests.”

Another suggestion is to make sure your voice mail states, "Hello, you have reached (no area code) 670-6497, we are unable to answer your call at the moment, please leave your name, number and brief message and we'll return your call as soon as possible."    Thanks Angie!

HPHA-specific Crime Information:

 ·        The Trans, of Regal Hill, had someone attempt to break into their car late on a recent Saturday night. Please remember to keep you cars locked and especially your garage door down.

·        Vandalism - On two occasions a hole has been cut in the chain link fence that separates HPHA and the Shelton School. The Shelton School is repairing the fence at their expense, however in the future they are going to call the police and press charges if they see any vandalism to the fence, or catch anyone trespassing on their property. Please report any vandalism to the police and your circle rep.

·        Vandalism: Recently there was evidence of someone shooting paintball guns in the park. This or any type of functioning gun is prohibited in the park.

·        Paulette La Fortune, of Mapleview, reported possible mail theft from her mailbox.

Please monitor the parking areas on your circle street. If you see people parking there late at night, please don’t hesitate to call 911 and ask the police to come out and run them off.
